There's a Reason Why Google Remains the King of Search
I decided, for the sake of experimentation, to prove which search engines provide the most up-to-date search results
in 2010. For the experiment, we used this website to find out how long it would take the search engines to
discover it (without submitting it, or submitting a site map.....that's another experiment). It would only focus on the amount of
time it takes, from launch, to be indexed by the search engines.
Weeks after we began appearing in Google, Yahoo & Bing
had not even included us in their search results. After some research, I found things like this:
Are you having trouble getting indexed by Yahoo?
The reason:
Yahoo says it needs to find your
website in order to index it.
Ok, I see, all it needs to do is find the website. Google was able to find it in two days, but Yahoo can't
seem to find it in a month and a half? (you'll have to trust me when I say, I already know how to
get noticed by the search engines)
I'm not buying it because when I look at the website stats myself, I see one visitor returning more than anyone. Can you guess who it is?
Yours truly, Yahoo. The statistics showed Yahoo visiting this site within a couple of days of it launching. Since then, Yahoo comes to
this website more than any visitor, including the webmaster - which until now, I always thought
was an impossible feat. By this point, there have been thousands of visitors, many who return multiple times throughout
the course of a day, and Yahoo beats them all.
The conclusion:
Yahoo must not update their search results for months at a time.
Unfortunately, Bing has just become another Yahoo and the two sites have identical search results now. Google tried to make a deal with
MSN (Pre-Bing), but regulators called it a monopoly. Yahoo ends up with the MSN deal and now you
have two indentical search engines, featuring the same inferior results. So, if you were wondering which search engine has the most
valid and up-to-date
search results, it's still Google. Yahoo and Bing update their index at a snail's pace compared to
the King of Search.
Update:
Yahoo / Bing included the website (when you search for the exact domain name) after 43 Days (Yahoo added the site to their index two days after this article was published)
Google indexed and included the website within 2 Days.
78 Days and Counting - Yahoo or Bing still have not added the site when you search for
the name only (Google did so in 2 weeks) and Yahoo is still visiting the website more than a 1000 times
a month. I'm beginning to think that they are doing it on purpose because I see them copying certain aspects. One day, I visited Yahoo and
saw their trending section, where they only feature ten results, but now they had added a scroll down menu, with different
categories. When you chose a category, a new list of top ten would should up. They have since taken it down, but I am
betting that they are only working on it more and will feature the changes in the near future. I will keep you posted.
