Sacha Baron Cohen to Play
Freddie Mercury in Film
Day Trending is the star of everybody's favorite immigrant parody comedy, Borat. Sacha Baron Cohen has signed on to play music
legend Freddie Mercury in a different sort of movie, the bio-pic.
A consortium of production companies join to produce the picture being penned by Peter Morgan for a 2011 filming. GK Films partners Graham King and Tim Headington will join with Jane Rosenthal and Rober De Niro's Tribeca Productions, and Queen Films to tell a story of the Classic Rock band's formative years up to the 1985 performance at Live Aid.
Rights to the iconic songs such as "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Another One Bites the Dust," "We Are the Champions" and "We Will Rock You," have been acquired for the film. Rumors that Cohen had been selected for the roll of the British singer first surfaced in 2007. No one has mentioned whether Cohen will attempt to sing, as Mercury's vocals were highly recognizable and opera-like in his range and skill.
Cohen's other roles have propelled the comedian, performer and filmmaker to stardom in shock comedies such as 'Borat,' and 'Bruno,' as well as an HBO series 'Ali G' and a supporting role to Will Ferrel in 'Taladega Nights'.
